It’s tough out there in this
world these days. The COVID-19 virus has swept the globe with pandemic
proportions leaving us all a bit shaken.
I think we are still in the early beginnings of facing the reality of
it’s devastating destruction here in the USA.
I am a strong person of faith and
I know that we will make it through this storm and come out on the other side a
little beaten up, but undefeated. I have no doubt that the American people will
dig in, do their part, and come through this ravenous first wave of the virus.
My heart ๐goes out to those who
are not working, are not well, have lost loved ones, and are not sitting in a
very good place right now. I think it is very important for everyone to stop,
take a breath, calm your soul, and meditate on some positive things, even the
very smallest of positive things. Here are a couple of stories from my experiences this week.
My husband’s car was rummaged
through one night this week as it sat out in the driveway of our home. Yes,
they took things, important things, one of them being our garage door opener.
That could have been a bad deal.
Instead of becoming angered, I
immediately looked for the positive things in this senseless act. The car was
not damaged at all. They could have very easily entered our garage or home that
night and they did not. It was very easy to file a police report, we now have a
camera on the house, something that’s been on our list of things to do, and no
one got hurt, inconvenienced, but not hurt.
Earlier this week I made a Target
run to pick up some essentials and to look for the most impossible items to
find these days: bleach, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, TP, and facial
tissues. I was surprised to find one package of TP and about 20 of the cube
facial tissue boxes sitting on the shelves. I grabbed the TP and four of the
cube boxes. (That’s my normal grab, not hoarding!) I felt pleased with being
able to have these precious finds!
A little back story, when I pick
out facial tissue boxes, I try to look for designs that will not be
offensive to my husband, I feel that it is, after all, my duty to guard his
manhood.๐ I try to protect him from floral designs and girly colors. Boy kid-themed designs are okay (he’s really a
kid at heart) and any neutral colors will do too. For most of our house, the cube boxes hide under a nice decorative box, so the design is not that
important.
I took my finds to the register
only to be told by the clerk that I would only be able to have one of the cube
boxes. Apparently, there was a sign that I had missed. I apologized and told
her no problem. She kindly asked me if it made a difference on what design I
took. I never looked up or even looked at the boxes and told her it didn’t
matter, leaving her to decide on her own what I would receive. No big deal,
right? I wasn’t disappointed or mad. I was indifferent on the matter.
I was thankful that I was able to
get what I got! At least she didn’t make me put the TP back! And by the way,
what is the deal with the TP?? Scratching my head here.
When I got home and took the
coveted TP to its rightful place, near THE THRONE, I unpacked the sacks and
pulled out the most adorable cube facial tissue box! I had no idea that I had
done this, I thought I was picking up four dreary neutral colored boxes, I know
I put those in my cart, but apparently I not only missed the sign that I should
have read, but totally did not look at all of the cube boxes that I was picking
up!
As I stood there looking at what
I had pulled out the of plastic sack, I began to smile and laugh out loud, and kept smiling
ear to ear. Out of the four boxes, the clerk had placed the most FUN one in my
bag.
It was a juvenile print, pink with
blue dots, white stars, featuring a pretty unicorn head that was all bedazzled with stars!!!
Yes, I danced around the kitchen while laughing. That clerk had no idea how much I needed the laughter and the dance
that day! The stars reminded me of a time when one of my little-known nicknames was used by some, Debstar!
I haven’t used that box at all
for its well-intended purpose, my empty in the bathroom. It sits on my desk to
remind me of how great it is to laugh and DANCE! It reminds me of how important
it is to be grateful for the small things, like the design on a tissue box and the act of an unsuspecting clerk.
By the way, did you know that you
can take a full-size box of Kleenex, fold it in half and it will fit inside of
your decorator square boxes? True story, try it.
Take some time to rest, make good
food choices, exercise, meditate and look for the small positive things that will happen in
these big uncertain days that lay ahead.
Fill your day with Unicorn Smiles!
Let
them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel
and lyre. ~ Psalm 149:3
You are my hiding place; you
will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. ~ Psalm
32:7
My the Holy Spirit give you
daily comfort, guidance and peace.
