FIVE-STAR BOOK REVIEW by Debra Lee

Book Review for: The Holy Potholes of Christianity by Albert Schuessler

My friend, retired pastor Albert Schuessler, and his wife Shirley approached me shortly after my book release in the fall of 2013 and they wanted to meet with me about an idea that Al had for a book. We met and I found that his idea and concept for the book sounded very interesting.

He brought his manuscript to our meeting in raw form and had many questions about how to get his project ready for publishing and exactly how to even get it published. I enjoyed helping him in this journey and even though I played a very, very small part in it, the book is now available in print!

The premise of the book is to answer the question “Does Christianity really work, or will it trip you up?”

This 129 page book takes you on a journey that starts out with how our faith has dangers lurking all around it and our faith can end up getting damaged, or hurt as we fall into those unsuspected potholes, as it is in most cases of road travels.  Sometimes we end up in a collision with Christianity and life.

He answers the questions about strife, strife in the church, our minds and behaviors. Why do we have strife? Who is the culprit?

Another question tackled is how we can be so clueless as to not know how to apply the Bible to ourselves. Why is it that we are not making the eighteen inch connection from our heads to our hearts when it comes to Christianity? A lot of minds are transformed, but why not the hearts?

The author then continues the journey to teach us how to navigate the potholes by examining the conditions of the heart. And there are many conditions that can trip us up. These are conditions that not only affect us as individuals but the Church as well. We see the Church today not always hitting the mark with the whole mind/heart connection thing and you will examine why as you read through this great find.

The journey ends up giving us some help on how to process our growth, give power to our growth, and discover the purpose of our growth as we learn the meaning and importance of two words that, if applied, can change our lives and our faith walk forever: Appropriation and Assimilation.

This is an awesome five-star read to help you with and enhance your faith walk. You won’t be disappointed!
